16ème Sud is the first vintage jewellery brand to join the ByAdushka family. The designer behind this brand is Catherine Tisseuil, a strong women with values which have amazed us right from the start. Her idea is to bring out the naturalness of the jewellery without altering the DNA of the object. Catherine is always on the lookout for antique objects, especially at flea markets, to reuse in her creations - so 16ème Sud is basically a jewellery collection made from forgotten silverware in attics and cupboards, transformed into jewels to regain their place in everyday life. 16ème Sud is clean, the designer doesn't use any polluting process and tries to keep the objects as simple as she possible. The creations are mainly handmade in the label's atelier in Paris and the use of electricity is reduced to a minimum. The materials used are always waste materials and upcycling is practiced create unique creations.
From heritage to quirkiness
Catherine Tisseuil, the designer, was inspired by the generous and contemporary shapes of silverware from a jeweller's point of view. The result is a surprising collection that transforms a tumbler into a cuff, a napkin ring into a bracelet and spoons into a necklace. The creations evade classical cultural codes and play on their ambivalence - they are both traditional and iconoclastic, sumptuous and modest. These creations evoke the nostalgia associated with sentimentalism of childhood objects, the sensuality of food, and bring these emotions into everyday life, to be passed on to the next generation. It's all in the way we look at things, who's to say that an antique matchbox can't become a perfect piece of jewellery for men and women of all ages? That's exactly what we love about 16ème Sud.
